Hot Messes in Faulkner, O'Connor, and Tennessee Williams

“Hot Messes in Southern Literature” was inspired by so many tragic characters in Southern Literature.  I focused on characters created by Flannery O’Connor, Tennessee Williams, and William Faulkner.  Some of the characters were more challenging than others to create because I leaned heavily on my authors and their (sometimes limited) descriptions of their characters.  This show took a lot of close reading, and by the time I finished, I felt like I should have a PhD in Southern Literature.  My favorite discovery was that Faulkner’s Temple Drake experiences a faded dye job—her hair turning from red to black—while she’s kidnapped by Popeye.
